Oh and another! One of the best editorials Australian Vogue has done, well, ever. In our opinion. With two of Australia's finest beauties Abbey Lee and Catherine McNeil, it would be hard to go wrong.
Don't you love going through old magazines? Rediscovering all those images you love again and again? Here's some beautiful photographs of no other than ashley olsen, showing the mature woman she's growing into. Love her look.
With Rosemount Australian Fashion Week just around the corner, Australian Harpers Bazaar threw together their fav fashion moments. These are our pics...from the power dress, quirky eccentrics and absolutely cool, there have been some great shows.
We've been wondering whether we should post this up or not. After writing a huge piece around this work recently, we're almost sick of the sight of it. But one scroll through and our interest is re-ignited. Say hello to Kate Moss, age 18. Hello Kate. Hello Kate's own apartment. Hello photographer favorite Corinne Day. Hello controversy! This shoot caused it by the bucket loads. Why? Some might ask. That's exactly what we've been writing about. When this came out Day was accused of promoting all kinds of nasties, from child porn and drugs. Compared to what we see now on tv and in magazines, is this really all that bad? You decide.
Stuck inside on a beautiful day with a mountain of work threatening to swallow us up whole, we're dreaming of getting out and about and walking around. Thinking of walking has made us think of shoes. Thinking of shoes has made us think of Jak&Jil, the blog to visit if you want to devour self confessed shoe addict Tommy Ton's impeccable pictures. Great attention to detail. But don't say we didn't warn you...guaranteed shoe jealousy to follow.
And, no fair, this week we spotted lucky PR bigwig Holly Garber of Australian fashion PR giant Golightly, wearing those exact Alexander Wang leopard print wedges pictured above.
After hearing the sad news that influential Aussie street label Ksubi had been hit hard by the hungry global financial monster earlier this year, we were worried who would fill the emptiness in our slightly kooky street wear hearts. But never fear, they're back and kicking. After getting a sneak peek of their new offices and collection recently, we reckon they'll triumph again!
AND, most exciting of all...they are making shoes.
We saw the shoes. We want the shoes. You'll want the shoes too.
AS SOON AS WE HAVE SOME PICTURES, YOU'LL FIND THEM HERE.
Here's a little sneak peek at our bedroom/ office/ playroom wall. We're clearly loving collages and crochet, polaroids and postcards, random objects and frilly undies, Corinne Day and Mario Sorrenti...
We can't wait to get out there and decorate our future home with all the little knick knacks we've been collecting. And by the looks of these spaces, it's not just us who's run out of room on our bookshelves!
We are giddy with excitement after this week’s line-up announcement of the annual Splendour in the Grass festival in Queensland, Australia. A three day music and camping extravaganza, the list of acts is mighty...the strokes, mumford and sons, passion pit, the temper trap, the drums, boy and bear, band of horses, the drums, philadelphia grand jury, angus and julia stone, lisa mitchell, ben harper, wolfmother...
And the one we're most excited about? FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE. If you don't know them, make a point of knowing them quick. Not only is the music great, lead singer Florence's quirky personality and style are as strong as her vocals.
Malcolm McLaren, said to be one of the key creators of the punk music movement and manager of iconic bands like the Sex Pistols and New York Dolls, passed away on thursday at age 63.
We need a new camera and don't know which one to pick. Lomography shots are fun and interesting, so we've narrowed it down to a top three: the holga. the diana. the lomo lca.
Based on the all girl american punk band The Runaways from the 1970s, this film of the same name is on our radar for more than one reason. 1- hello kristen stewart not looking like a confused teenage vampire loving girl 2- we'll never say no to a music biopic. And it's set in the 70s. Costume envy. 3- ummmm Dakota Fanning. All grown up.
Not sold on the band themselves, although it is a cute song, but we just love this strange little clip! Watch out at the end for their multiple camera invention. It's 360 degrees of genius and we're trying to figure out how to make one ourselves. Take a peek...
On the wall of a terrace house deep in the maze like streets of Avignon, France. Love the wash out of colours, texture clash, and mysterious story hanging in the air.
We've been looking at inspiration a lot lately; figuring out the who, what and where of what makes our minds tick and our hearts beat that little bit faster. It's important to know your inspiration, but to also be open to new ideas and all the craziness that goes on around us. Whereever you look, there's something to see. Make a journal, rip out some pictures, take some pictures....whatever you do, have fun and keep embracing the talent around you.
Check out the inspiration boards of some of our creative loves...George Gorrow, Erin Wasson, Alexander Wang...
Girls don't get much cooler than Texan model Erin Wasson. She surfs. She skates. She styles. Oh and she makes and designs pretty things at RVCA. So with that sort of introduction, it's only fitting we want to have a peak inside her wardrobe. WANT THOSE SHOES NOW. That's all.
Too cool for school model Erin Wasson's show for RVCA had Margherita and Ke$ha, Clemence and Lou sat pretty at Chloe, and Alexa looked charming at Chanel. But it was Alexander Wang's presentation that saw the who's who of the cool crowd- with Alice Dellal, Pixie Geldof, Henry Holland, Zoe Kravitz, blogger Tavi Gevinson, Dasha Zhukova, and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld to name but a few.
Messed up eyeliner, strong brows, dewy hair...it's very 90s and very 'just got out of bed'. Try out these looks from Rag & Bone, Zac Posen, Alexander Wang, and Narciso Rodriguez.
So says miss Georgia May Jagger. And really, she's got a point. When asked how she regards fame, she answers...
"I think if you have talent and you want people to be aware of it – and you deserve it – then that’s fine. But being famous for being famous, without any specific talent and without working, is not good."
Wait, we hear you asking, but who is she? You know that little band from a while back...yeah THE ROLLING STONES...well her dad is lead singer Mick Jagger and her mum is iconic model Jerry Hall. With that kind of heritage she could turn dangerously into socialite territory, but this young Jagger is anything but. Gorgeously imperfect, the fashion world is taking note.
It all had to start somewhere. Here is Kate Moss aged 15, in the now famous The Face shoot by Corinne Day. The shots are fun, rebellious, and a little bit gawky...all those things that Kate came to be famous for. Day's love of realism shines through, capturing Kate in her teenage innocence. Somehow it doesn't matter that she's breaking all the rules.
One half of street style powerhouse couple, Garance Dore and her partner Scott Schuman (of the Sartorialist) sure know a thing or two about stylish street snaps. But by trawling through Garance's own blog, you'll find these little gems! Some of her own illustrations, she has a unique and minimalist style. It's tricky to capture the mood of a label or show in an illustration, but Garance manages brilliantly. Wish our daydream doodling looked so good!
