We feel like bottling up all our deepest loves and secrets and sending them across the seas! It's a theme we've been noticing lately...from some old Selby pics of the Ksubi showroom, to Matt Corby's Letters video clip, to some ad on the tv...
And speaking of Matt Corby, we've just rediscovered him in all his smouldering eye'd glory years after his Australia Idol teenage debut. Loving the new direction...he sounds a bit like our favourite lone ranger Bon Iver...only better, because he's a surfer boy with beautiful eyes. Obviously.
Shot by Nick Knight, this is the new Kate Moss for Topshop video, featuring ah...Kate Moss. Love the atmosphere, and the song! It's called Be Brave by The Strange Boys.
Depressed that the Vampire Weekend show had sold out, you can imagine our excitement when we got the call to say we'd scored some last minute tickets! These boys from New York have such a unique sound, borrowing from reggae in a way no one else is doing in mainstream music. Their music is fun to dance to, but also fun to relax to. We discovered them a few years ago when trawling through YouTube and came across this fun clip. It's so quirky and upbeat, you can't help but smile. Watch it below:
The show last night was pretty relaxed. They had a simple set- just them on stage with a few chandeliers hanging overhead. The best part was the enlarged album cover (which we love! There's something about that picture...) that came to life through lights replacing the girls pupils and flashing like crazy.
Here at platform we're a bit obsessed with all things festive. Christmas, crackers, concerts... So in celebration of one of the most festive festivals, Coachella, and one of our fav photographers, Yvan Rodic (of the Facehunter blog), we are posting some of his pictures of the...festivities.
In amongst all the fashion craziness, we have to mention Major Label. A new initiative through General Pants Co, they have established a new singles record label aimed at discovering emerging talent on the Australian music scene. They avoid artistic control and 100% of royalties generated from the singles sale on their website goes straight back to the band. The staff in the General Pants stores act as talent scouts, submitting bands and artists to the online blog, which is then voted on, and the winners picked from there.
This is a fantastic way of giving new talent a shot at promoting themselves and getting some recognition. Major Label had a launch event last week at Oxford Arts Factory, featuring bands Guineafowl, Made in Japan, and our top pick, Underlights.
Larry Heath at the aureview said of Underlights "this band were awesome! So polished, so tight, so much fun. Getting ready to launch their debut single "Love Me" through Major Label, it's clear that this band are building themselves a solid reputation for their live show, and I'm sure they'll be doing the same on record."
We couldn't agree more!! Seen them many times, and are super excited about the upcoming single launch. Check out details on there facebook page here.
Here some pictures of Underlights from the event...
We are giddy with excitement after this week’s line-up announcement of the annual Splendour in the Grass festival in Queensland, Australia. A three day music and camping extravaganza, the list of acts is mighty...the strokes, mumford and sons, passion pit, the temper trap, the drums, boy and bear, band of horses, the drums, philadelphia grand jury, angus and julia stone, lisa mitchell, ben harper, wolfmother...
And the one we're most excited about? FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE. If you don't know them, make a point of knowing them quick. Not only is the music great, lead singer Florence's quirky personality and style are as strong as her vocals.
Malcolm McLaren, said to be one of the key creators of the punk music movement and manager of iconic bands like the Sex Pistols and New York Dolls, passed away on thursday at age 63.
Not sold on the band themselves, although it is a cute song, but we just love this strange little clip! Watch out at the end for their multiple camera invention. It's 360 degrees of genius and we're trying to figure out how to make one ourselves. Take a peek...
